Itinerary:

  • We start the Ausangate 7 Lakes excursion with pickup at your hotels in Cusco between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Then we head towards the community of Pacchanta, located on the slopes of the Ausangate volcano. We arrive there via the new southern interoceanic road, deviating onto a cobbled road, in approximately three hours from the city of Cusco.
  • Once in Pacchanta, we will have breakfast before starting the hike to see the 7 lakes. After hiking for two hours, we will arrive at a viewpoint from where we can appreciate the first lake, known as Laguna Pucacocha.
  • After a well-deserved photo session, we will continue hiking to see the second lake, Patacocha, then the third Laguna Alqacocha. Moments later, we will see the turquoise-colored lakes known as Laguna Qomercocha. Finally, we will see the Orco Otorongo and China Otorongo lakes. These small lakes, due to their shape and surrounding landscape, have the shape and spots of an ocelot, a feline that inhabits the jungles of America. The panoramic views of both lakes are impressive and are ideal for taking photos.
  • The last of the 7 lakes circuit is the Laguna Azul Cocha, which has a dark blue color in its waters. The beauty of this lake and its surrounding mountainous landscape are highly appreciated by tourists, who often photograph themselves here.
  • Some of these lakes have a turquoise green tone, which makes them attractive. This is because the water that comes down from the mountains also carries pulverized minerals, and these eventually accumulate in the waters.
  • Finally, we will start the return journey, hiking for two hours to reach Pacchanta, where we will have lunch and then enjoy the hot springs. After relaxing in the bath, we will prepare to return to Cusco by the same interoceanic road and arrive in Cusco around 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
